Ed Campbell presently works as the Chief of Staff of Operations at the Nassau County Board of Elections (BOE). In this capacity he serves as one of the commissioner’s advisors on special projects and policy, and supervises in excess of 50 employees. Prior to working at the board, Mr. Campbell served at the Nassau County Legislature. Throughout his 12 years there he served in numerous positions. He started as legislative assistant for Hon. Lisanne Altman, District 10, where he handled constituent affairs, managed the office staff, served as a liaison with various Public and Governmental groups, and one of his proudest accomplishments at that time was working with the Parks Department to revitalize Parks in the District that were in disrepair near the Spinny Hill Housing Apartments.
From there Mr. Campbell was promoted to Director of Community Affairs and was put in charge by the Presiding Officer to handle all community affairs events, serve as the Democratic caucus liaison to the County Executive Office, as well as assist the County Executive and the Presiding Officer set up anti-gang programs once the County realized that Nassau County did indeed have a gang problem.
In March of 2007, Mr. Campbell was promoted to the position of Deputy Chief of Staff for the Democratic Majority at the Legislature, where he helped supervise and run the day-to-day operations of the Majority Caucus.
In September of 2007 Mr. Campbell was promoted again by the late, Hon. Judy Jacobs to serve as the Chief of Staff for the entire Majority Caucus. Mr. Campbell became the first and only African American to hold this position in senor staff in the history of the Nassau County Legislature. In his new role, he oversaw the Budget and Press Offices, Legal Department, and supervised a staff of 45 people. In addition, he was responsible for the management of a 2.3-million-dollar budget office, which under his tenure as chief of staff, provided a savings by coming in five consecutive years under budget. He was asked to stay on in this position under a new Presiding Officer, Honorable Diane Yaturo, a position he held for nearly six years. Prior to his time in Nassau County Mr. Campbell worked with the New York City Marshal where he was a supervisor in the Scofflaw Enforcement Unit.
Mr. Campbell has served on numerous boards for non-for-profit as well as for profit organizations and involved in various youth sports organizations as well-EOC of Nassau County; S.T.R.O.N.G. Youth; Empower Youth Corp located in Queens County; Head Coach PAL Basketball; Flag Football Referee, just to name a few.
Ed was also happy to serve on a Representative for Legislator Kevan Abrahams of the 1st LD, at the Police Executive Research Forum to discuss policing issues in Nassau County. Ed also currently serves as a Human Rights Commissioner on the Village of Freeport Planning Commission.
Ed Campbell has conducted and/or spoken at various forums with topics ranging forums anti-gang violence and prevention as well as getting out the vote in Minority communities, and educating the communities on the importance of voting and participating in the process. In 2001 he became a Certified Mediator, where he specializes in Divorce Mediation Services for ENC Consulting.
Ed is the 18th Assembly District State Committeemen and Co-District Leader of the Freeport North Democratic Committee and Town of Hempstead Chair. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from SUNY Empire State College.
