Intervention Case Manager, STRONG University (Brentwood)
“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”
- Mahatma Gandhi
Sebastian was born in Colombia, Manizales where the culture and environment shaped most of his childhood mindset. Though he came from a strong united family, the broken community exposed him to a lot of street crime, poverty and lack of education. Survival and loyalty to his family was what kept him focused on putting others before himself. His parents decided to migrate to U.S.A when he was only 8 years old. Little did he know that he escaped one broken world to meet another one that had its own unique brokenness. Sebastian stepped up to the challenges he faced and adapted living in a country as an immigrant for 19 years of his life. His obstacles of always getting denied jobs, education and resources only strengthen his character to fight harder for his dreams.
Sebastian was determined to rise above his challenges. As he got older, he realized how much a mentor would have made a huge difference in his life through his hardships. Therefore, he become passionate about offering others what he never had growing up. He starting to work as a Youth Counselor and served fervently to see the life’s of the youth change. His genuine heart behind his work opened up doors to serve his community in a greater way. He was fortunate to work in the field of human services before earning his degree. He has worked in both Nassau and Suffolk County communities and served low income families, disaster relief victims, victims of mental and substance abuse, victims of domestic violence and individuals on parole.
Education was always a priority in Sebastian’s mind. He knew his dreams would revolve around serving others so he enrolled in a Nassau Community College and is going to earn his A.A in Human Services in May 2018. He is planning to enroll in Stony Brook University in hopes of earning his BSW. He is eager to earn his MSW in the future to be able to become a Licensed Social Work Clinician.
Sebastian is grateful to be part of the S.T.R.O.N.G family since February 2018 as an Intervention Case Manager. He is thrilled to be able to impact his community and serve in an incredible mission that will forever leave an inspirational legacy behind.
In addition to his work at S.T.R.O.N.G., Sebastian loves to play sports and is extremely competitive when he plays his two top sports, soccer and volleyball. Sebastian is recently married to his amazing wife and they both love the outdoors and camping. His curious and adventures spirit is what drives him to travel and meet new cultures that deepens his appreciation to the human soul.
